Minnesota State University Moorhead, or MSUM for short, is a four-year, public university located in Moorhead, which is the county seat of Clay County, situated in the US state of Minnesota, having a population estimated at a number of more than 32 000 inhabitants, during the 2000 census, fact which makes it the largest city in northwest Minnesota.
MSUM was officially established in 1887, but the plans for its founding were laid down in 1885, when the Minnesota State Legislature passed a bill, requesting for its founding. Currently, Minnesota State - Moorhead, has an enrollment of approximately 7800 students, and offers more than 135 majors and 19 areas of pre-professional studies with 32 academic departments, through 4 colleges: Business & Industry, Arts & Humanities, Social & Natural Sciences, and Education and Human Services, also offering graduate degree programs in 15 academic areas.
The athletic teams at Minnesota State University Moorhead are known as the Dragons, who compete in NCAA Division II and NSIC, in various sport, for both men and women, including in basketball, cross country, golf, tennis and volleyball. Their distinctive colors are red and white and their mascot is the Dragon.
